It is intended to publish a thousand books in the following ten categories:

 Samskrita scholars all over India, who can write in simple and good Samskritam, are being entrusted with the work of translation. Each book will consist of an average of 150 pages and 1000 copies of each book will be printed.  Around 250 copies of each book will be distributed to institutional libraries, scholars, and the needy students, in order to cultivate the reading habit in Samskritam.  The rest of the copies will be sold at a nominal price and the proceeds will go to the state units of Samskrita Bharati, which in turn will be used for the popularization of Samskritam.

In order to revitalize and re-functionalize Samskritam, two tasks have to be accomplished:

1.   Teach Samskritam intensively and extensively all over the world to enable people to directly access the Bhagavad Gita, Ramayana, Shastras, and other scriptures.

2.   Create a vast base of teaching and learning material and contemporary literature in Samskritam through translations from other languages, which will bridge the gap between the ancient and the modern, and will blend the West with the East.

Speech and script, i.e. spoken language and literature, are the two facets of a language development.  Due to the efforts of Samskrita Bharati for the last 25 years, Samskritam has come a long way as a simple spoken language.  But there is a great need to give a fillip to contemporary literature in Samskritam.  Modern subjects and current trends & developments have to be brought into Samskritam.

For the past two centuries, the objectives of learning Samskritam were to understand Samskrita literature and to translate them into other languages.  Hence the method employed globally in teaching Samskritam was grammer translation, and the results of that method for the past two centuries were “translators”.  The entire Samskrita publishing industry was, and still is, “translations”.  People read and relished “translations” and not Samskritam.  Other languages grew and evolved, but Samskritam remained stagnant and symbolic.  As a result, adoration for Samskritam increased manifold, but the use of the language declined to its lowest level.  Even the ability to use it has disappeared.

Instead of translating from Samskritam to other languages, the present need is to translate from other languages to Samskritam.  Translation, imitation, and creation are the three progressive steps towards the development of any literature.
