Below we have tried to provide some information on the campsite and activities during the camp in order to help you plan for the camp. If you have any other questions, please Contact Us
1. Who can attend?
All are welcome. NO prior knowledge of Samskritam is required.
Note: Those under the age of 18 need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
2. When will the camp start and when will it end?
The camp will start on Friday, Sep 4th, 2009 and end on Monday, September 7th, 2009 at 2:00 pm. Check-in time is around 7:00 PM on Thursday, Sep 3rd. Make sure that the registration, consent and insurance forms have been signed. (They will be available through the jaahnavii2009 yahoogroups. They are also uploaded in the website, under the Downloads section.) Please submit these at the registration desk at the campsite. Dinner will be served from 8:00 PM to 9:00PM on Thursday, September 3rd. If you plan on arriving late on Thursday night, and cannot join us for dinner, please Contact Us
3. What is the fee for the camp?
The fee for the camp covers lodging, food and study materials. Please refer to the table below regarding discounts for early registration.
*Date of registration is when the payment is made (paypal/credit card) or the date on which the check is mailed (postmark date on the mailing envelope) **Children attending the camp need to be accompanied by a parent(s)/guardian. Children will be supervised during the times when parents are attending classes; at all other times, they will be the parent’s responsibility.
4. How do I register?
Please use the Registration link and complete the step by step directions.
Note: Last date for registration: Wednesday, August 26th, 2009.
5. When is the registration complete?
Registration is complete after the payment is made, either through paypal, or, when a check has been mailed for the appropriate amount to the address specified in the registration page.
6. What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellation requests have to be made in writing by sending an email to jaahnaviiATsamskritabharatiDOTorg.
7. Can we arrive on Friday or later?
No.
All
camp participants should report at the camp by Thursday.
We
highly discourage participants from coming late, as you will be
missing classes (it will be difficult to catch up with the rest of
the class) and other activities. The camp activities begin early
morning on September 4th.
If, due to unavoidable circumstances, you are unable to arrive on
Thursday night, you must contact and inform one of the volunteers
(names and phone numbers are given at the end of this document).

11. Which is the nearest airport?
Newark

12. Which is the nearest train station?
There
are no train stations nearby (the nearest one is at New Brunswick, NJ
which is 52 miles away). However, the Greyhound Line is available at
Stroudsburg .

13. Are
there any transportation facilities provided by Samskrita Bharati?
Transportation is participants’ responsibility. However, Samskrita Bharati volunteers/students coming in from different areas will try to accommodate any reasonable request, if possible. We strongly encourage and solicit help of all participants, who can offer a ride to other participants in their area or en route. If you can help, or need help, please Contact Us, indicating the number of participants you can accommodate, or, who need to be accommodated. A volunteer will be assigned to co-ordinate such arrangements.
14. What should I do when I arrive at the camp?
Follow
the signs to the registration desk for Jaahnavii. Several Samskrita
Bharati volunteers will be there at the campsite from 6pm on
Thursday, September 3rd.
15. Can I just attend during the day and skip staying there at night?
No,
we require all participants to enroll as residential campers only. We
strongly believe that this facilitates learning through a complete
immersion into Samskritam experience for all attendees.
16.
What
are the different levels of classes?
- Classes range from beginner to advanced levels - The syllabus is designed to foster a highly-interactive learning experience.

No prior knowledge of Samskritam is required at the beginner level. Click here for help with 'Which Level would be appropriate for me?'
If you have questions regarding the appropriate level for you or your family members, please contact one of our volunteers. Also, at the start of the camp, instructors would work with all students to evaluate their appropriate level in order to maintain class homogeneity.
17.
Dr.
Vishwas, author of several Samskrita Bharati publications and a very
experienced teacher will be coming from India to conduct the classes.
He will be assisted by several experienced and dedicated Samskrita
Bharati instructors.
18. Do you provide Course material?
Yes,
course material in the form of handouts will be provided. Books will
be available for purchase at the campsite. You may bring any
Samskritam books or study material that you may have for your
reference.
19. What kind of classes would children attend?
There
would be separate classes for children, customized to include study
and play, grouped by age. They would be taught basic conversation
skills in Samskritam, Devanagari script writing, and pronunciation.
Children who have prior Samskritam knowledge and are ready to learn
further will be integrated with the beginners/intermediate levels as
appropriate.
20. What kind of clothing should I bring?
Though
it is summer, be prepared for a sudden drop in temperature and rain.

21. What should I bring and NOT bring to Camp?
Things to bring:
• Sheets, pillows, pillowcases, blankets (mattresses will be available on dormitory style bunk beds)
• Toiletry items (Tooth paste & brush, Soap, comb, towels etc., items of personal hygiene)
• Personal prescription medicine
• Some warm clothing
• Loose clothing (Yoga sessions)
• Laundry bag
• Shoes/Sneakers
• Plastic water bottle
• Mosquito/Insect Repellent
• Personal alarm clock
• Flashlight
• Umbrella/raincoat/poncho
• Notebooks, Pens/Pencils
• Samskrita books if you already have – diikshaa book set, bhaashapraveshaa, abhyaasapustakam, abhyaasadarshinii, vibhakitvallari,samaasaH, sandhiH (some of these will be useful depending on the class you will be attending).
• Yoga mats
Optional:
• Any kind of audio recorders - To record any teaching sessions • Any musical instruments – To participate in cultural events • Indian Clothing for the cultural events in the evening • Camera, film • Camcorder • Calling cards and quarters for payphone, if cell phone signal becomes spotty. • Chargers for any battery operated equipment in use. Things NOT to bring Please do not bring expensive jewelry and other valuables. Also, please do not bring TV, Radio, Video Games, iPODs, etc. These items can break or be lost easily in the camp. Similarly, hair dryers, curling irons and other personal appliances are also strongly discouraged.
22. Should we pack the bags separately within a family?
Yes, please pack bags for men and women separately, since they will be housed in separate quarters. Children will be staying with one of the parents.
23. Food, Lodging, Laundry and Telecommunications
Do you have Laundry facilities?
There are NO Laundry facilities (washer/dryer) at the campsite. Please bring enough clothing for 4 days. How are the lodging facilities? Participants would be lodged in wooden structure cabins with dorm style sleeping arrangement. All cabins are equipped with electricity and restrooms with running water. Cots and mattresses are available in the cabins. Participants need to bring their own sheets, blankets, pillows and pillow cases. There would be separate quarters for men and women. Children will be staying with one of the parents. Are there any telecommunication facilities? There is good cell phone coverage, and payphones are also available. Participants are prohibited from using phones during class hour and other activity times. What kind of food would be available at the camp? Only vegetarian food will be served at all times. Morning continental breakfast, lunch, dinner, and evening tea/coffee/Snacks will be provided at the camp. If you have any personal preferences for cookies/snacks for yourself or your kids, please bring them with you. You will not have time to go out of the camp for shopping.
24. Would there be any first-aid kit available?
There would be a generic medical kit available at the campsite. However, please bring your personal medicines if you have any special needs.

27. What is a typical day at camp?
At the link given below is a tentative schedule. However, the final schedule will be decided before the start of the camp & published at the campsite. Here is the Daily Schedule to see a typical day at the camp.

Jaahnavii-2009 Samskritam camp has a very busy schedule from early morning till
nighttime (see Question 27 above.) The physical activities include Yoga in the morning and outdoor games
in the evening. Though the camp site has access to adventure sports,
Samskrita Bharati has agreed not to use them for jaahnavii camp
related activities. So, for safety and insurance purposes,
all participants are strictly prohibited from accessing those areas.
Parents should take particular note of this point, and convey to their children.
