A language in use constantly generates words, or, borrows from other languages.  This is an inevitable aspect of any language that is in use.  Because Samskritam was not in use as a medium for trade, commerce, science, education, administration and communication for the last two centuries, the process of word generation was stopped.  

The mechanics behind word composition in Samskritam is the use of a set of root verbs (around 2200 in number) used in combination with any number of appropriate suffixes and prefixes (22 in number).  While this opens up an almost infinite number of words, the process also eliminates ambiguity.

With the creation of new words, comes the responsibilityof maintaining and updating dictionaries.

shabda shaalaa is the effort to master-mind the efforts of word generation, thus ensuring the development of the language.
