Eight years ago, a Samskritam residential camp was just a very ambitious project. Today, it has become an annual event on both coasts, featuring youth and family camps. The timeline sketched below eloquently says it all. alakaanandaa was held in 2000 near Sacramento, California.
Following gangotri
in the year 2002, the family camps have been successful in inculcating a love for the language in the young and old alike.
As with the river of its namesake, this event was the spring from which many sustained activitites took life and continue to this day. jaahnavii 2007 (east coast) was a record breaker in many ways, with over 120 particpants, youngest being 4 years old, and the oldest, a septagenarian. shraddhaa in 2007 was the first residential camp exclusively for teenagers, conducted by youth who grew up in US and have made Samskritam as part of their lives. 2008 has already seen narmadaa - a family camp - in the west coast during the Memorial Day weekend. shraddhaa 2008 is scheduled for June 22nd to 28th. prajnaa 2008, youth residential camp in the west coast following on the heels of shraddhaa, is scheduled for July 9th (to July 13th). jaahnavii 2008 is scheduled for the Labor Day Weekend.
